Neue Deutsche Härte (New German Hardness), abbreviated NDH, is a genre of industrial metal that originated in the German-speaking world in the 1990s. The lyrics are usually written in that language and the solo voice usually sings in a serious record. The NDH bands are characterized by their sound based on highly distorted electric guitars, the usual bass and drums, and keyboards, synthesizers, samplers and even drum machines. The name is a nod to another movement that emerged in the German-speaking area in the late 70s, Neue Deutsche Welle.
